MISSION STATEMENT OF THE TRIBAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICE OF THE PUEBLO OF TESUQUE
IS TO PROTECT, PRESERVE THE CULTURE, TRADITION’S, HISTORY AND THE RESOURCES ON TRIBAL LANDS, ANCESTRAL LANDS. THESE NONRENEWABLE RECOURCES, SUCH AS ARTIFACTS, RUINS/SITES, LANDSCAPES, SACRED AREAS ARE AN IMPORTANT CONNECTION TO OUR PAST AND A TOOL TO KEEPING OUR PUEBLO CULTURE, TRADITIONS ALIVE NOW AND IN TO THE FUTURE.

OUR VISION STATEMENT IS TO SAFEGUARD OUR CULTURE, TRADITIONS AND SACRED WAYS BY ASSERTING OUR SORVERIGNTY, WHILE MAINTAINING A HIGH LEVEL OF INTEGRITY THAT HONORS OUR INHERENT DUTIES AS KEEPERS OF OUR TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE.

Maintain an inventory of Cultural Resources.

Conduct a comprehensive survey of our tribal lands.

Assist and advise Federal, State, Private and Tribal Governments working on and off tribal lands to comply with cultural resource laws.

Provide education and training concerning Tribal Historic Preservation

Coordinate issues related to Repatriation of items back to the Tribe.

Coordinate issues related to Cultural resources damage, looting and inadvertent discoveries.

Community members, contractors and all departments that wish to clear land or dig around the pueblo area need to contact this office so we can give the clearance for the project to commence. We will be onsite for all digging.
